Here’s how this role performs at Shepherd:

In this hands-on position, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with comprehensive rehabilitation team members (including occupational therapists, physical therapists, therapeutic recreation specialists, speech therapists, psychologists, and job placement staff) in the implementation of patient treatment plans with particular focus on community re-entry, life skills activities, routine activities of daily living, and meeting behavioral needs of patients.

Your team will depend on you to guide and monitor patients (adolescent, adults and geriatrics) in the planning and simplification of tasks, and in the actual performance of life skills and supervises patients on individual life skills outings and in repetitive cognitive retraining tasks.

You will also be responsible for assisting the patient care team members or independently performing lifts, transports, activities of daily living, transfers in any location of the program, passive range of motion and wheelchair mobility; ensuring general maintenance of therapy equipment; performing assigned clerical tasks; attending required meetings and facility special events; instructing new employees and volunteers in departmental maintenance tasks. All activities are performed under the direct supervision of a licensed therapist or nurse, as outlined by the licensing body for each discipline.

Basic knowledge and experience required includes a degree in health-related field, a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification, and one year of previous work in a health care field. In addition, a current Georgia driver's license is required. For speech related program, current or eligible for speech aide licensure in State of Georgia.
